By Abheet Sajwan

In today’s time, having core skills isn’t enough. Given the dynamic business scenario and the competitive work world, recruiters look for many more traits other than the core skills when hiring candidates. Most check for leadership skills, communication skills and soft skills primarily.

We spoke to recruiters who hire for big IT giants and prepared a list of skills that they defined as ‘critical’ when hiring a candidate –

Leadership

Leadership isn’t just about taking the top role in a team, albeit leading a team to success especially under difficult or unfavorable circumstances. These skills aren’t just confined to the people at the managerial level but are required of employees at every level. Everyone can take charge of their work profile and show leadership skills which can help increase individual and team productivity.

Strategic thinking

Strategic thinking and execution are all about having the ability to give right direction to the business. Strategic thinking helps to execute the missions and achieve the desired goals. This skill is not just desired from the managers, but also from the fresh graduates and mid-level professionals.

Technical acumen

Technical expertise has always been a great asset. In today’s digital age, no matter which role or domain you work at, you should have the apt tech skills. Having a sound technical knowledge helps you to grow in your specific domain and get you employed easily.

Team player

There is a soaring demand for team-related skills in an employee. Building and leading the teams and working cohesively helps the companies to sustain the competition.

Today executives are expected to take the whole team together and not just stay restricted to their work.

Communication and presentation skills

Excellent communication and presentation skills are much required to interact with the peers, colleagues and stakeholders. Every employee should be great at communication skills, or have the art of convincing everyone.
