5 trends in Cloud Computing that will change the landscape of jobs for IT professionals

By Nayanaraja V Naidu

The exponential Growth of Cloud Computing has kind of refuted prevalent security reservations. According to IDC, cloud spending is expected to grow at more than six times the rate of IT spending through 2020. The rise of cloud platform products is making it easier for non-tech companies to move their data to cloud.

The biggest advantage of Cloud Computing is access to the most advanced infrastructure, without incurring upfront costs that come with on-premise hardware. Also, IT resources need minimal knowledge of underlying infrastructure to operate in cloud.

Let’s look at the top 5 trends that are transforming the journey of Cloud:

On Demand Hardware

With more companies migrating to Cloud, the demand for processing capacity and new hardware is shifting towards service providers like Amazon Webservices, Azure and Google Cloud. This calls for hardware capabilities to be available only on demand. It challenges hardware OEMs like Dell and HP, as cloud service providers directly reach out to component vendors and build custom hardware.

Hybrid Multi-Cloud Solutions

In some cases, such as banks, continue to have on-premise infrastructure and also want the benefit of modern cloud computing. Resulting in a hybrid multi-cloud environment, that combines on-premise infrastructure with private and public cloud architecture for higher business efficiency.

Edge Computing and IoTsGrowth of connected devices and IoT creates need for faster processing and increase in cloud adoption. Pressure on networks needs a faster, cheaper and smarter approach than the traditional one of gathering data, sending through networks to the cloud or other environments to be processed. Hence, edge computing.

Machine Learning

Data is the new oil which is generating faster than light. With the amount of meta data available, thanks to consumer information, Machine Learning algorithms are providing the necessary intelligence to understand customer behavioural patterns, helping companies build better products.

Artificial Intelligence

Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence is a killer combination that is transforming lives forever. We are seeing the effects of digital assistants like Alexa, Siri, Cortana – a simple voice command is able to play music on a connected speaker, manage temperature control, automate your grocery list or order prescription medicines through drug stores. AI is a strong influencer on the progression of Cloud Computing.
