People are an organisation’s greatest asset. Creating a transparent workplace is a crucial step in keeping these people happy, which will holistically benefit the organisation. Employee engagement is gaining increased relevance in recent years as the millennial workforce is increasingly looking forward to a purpose to relate to and facilities and benefits beyond remuneration. Hence, employee engagement is an area of extreme importance to understand actual employee needs for different segments and enable these.

Training and Development

Employee communication and engagement can be further strengthened through training and development. The first engagement for an employee is usually with the HR manager and the immediate manager who communicates details of pay, work timings, company contract, programs, and policies. This is the first step in employee engagement where the roles, responsibilities, and goals of the new hire are communicated to him/her and how he/she can make a difference in the organisation. The introduction helps the new employee procure a thorough understanding of the organisational culture from day one.

The organisation’s vision and mission along with other business communications must be communicated with transparency for improving employee engagement. By focusing on employee requirements, a strong culture can be nurtured. While executing action plans, progress must be monitored closely, and proper rewards and recognition must be given to celebrate success. Conducting regular town halls and informal engagement in small groups are valuable ways for managers and employees to listen and respond.
