Six tips for managing teams effectively in COVID-19 lockdown

The COVID-19 has forced people to stay inside their homes. Remote working isn’t as rosy as it seems, and managing teams remotely is an equally daunting task. Here are some points to keep in mind to manage a team effectively:

1.Regular e-meetings:Rather than just checking on the work via call or email, a manager should hold regular video call meetings via Skype, Hangout or the other video call apps. It’s important to ‘see’ you colleagues face to face and it builds confidence in the team.


2.Track progress reports:
Tracking progress brings efficiency to the work. It also brings discipline to the work-life. Goals should be set which are easy to understand and can be achieved readily. Be clear with the goals and check employees progress in terms of the goals set.

3.Be a support system: Don’t forget about your team emotional and social needs. Everyone is disturbed during the lockdown, worrying about health and other issues. Sometimes focus on well-being takes over all other focal points. Hence it’s important to support your team emotionally by asking about their general well-being, inquiring about their families etc.

4.Motivate your team: Motivate them to work well, show them the positive points of working from home. Start meeting calls asking them about their health and if they are facing any challenge in completing the tasks given.

5.Alternative plans: Start working out alternate plans with your team member. One should be clear with the working structure he has to follow. Don’t forget to add everyone in this as there should be clear answer of plans everyone thinks of. Employees need reassurance of their career with the company and the role they will play after the lockdown is over.


6.Strict deadlines:
Mention strict deadlines to the team for all the tasks that have to be done. But, be understanding if someone is not able to complete a task on the given time period due to some circumstances. The most powerful thing any leader can do is be humble and show humanity.
