Talent demand for game developer surge amid COVID-19 pandemic


The gaming industry has indeed been growing by leaps and bounds, but all thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry witnessed a sharp spike in its customer base. Besides the continuous growth, it is interesting to see that there has been a shift in revenue sources in this space. Earlier, this sector primarily growing on its subscriber base, but with time it has extended its operations to organising mega-gaming tournament, events etc.

The Gaming industry witnessed an exponential growth in the COVID-19 lockdown. Be it hardware sales, subscription to games or the live streaming of game competitions, the gaming industry has been recording a steep rise. With this rise, there will be more job opportunities too. Game Developers, Multi-media Designers, product analysts will be in huge demand.

Job profiles most-in demand

Amid the COVID-19 lockdown, technology is the biggest enabler for all functions. In gaming too, many old jobs will become obsolete, while new jobs will be created. Going with the present trends the demand for Game Animation, Game Art Creation in 3D and 2D, Game Design, Game Testing, Game Programming, Project Management, professionals is likely to surge.

Career opportunities and skills requirements

“Gaming PC” is the fastest growing sector in PC hardware industry. In India itself, the market grew from 40 thousand units [gaming laptop] a year to almost 300 thousand units [gaming laptop] a year from 2016 to 2019. In simple terms, it grew 7.5 times within 4 years. Candidates pursuing career in this sector will be most sought after for three core skills – creativity, technology, and fun.
