Technologies helping employees to stay productive during COVID-19 lockdown

By Piyush Somani,

We are in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic owing to which companies all over the world have announced a mandated Work from Home (WFH). This comes directly from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Health departments around the world who have urged people to stay quarantined in their home in order to halt extensive spread of COVID-19. As per Government of India mandated circulars released recently, employees have been asked to work from home in the wake of recent pandemic which has brought the entire nation to a halt. Effective immediately, this order is mandated at least for the foreseen 21 days minimum.

While several global IT companies are already equipped to handle a working environment away from office, many companies had to break their traditional outlook and focus on ways to ensure maximum productivity. The mantle of paving the way in India has been shared majorly by IT companies and cutting-edge technology that they provide to ensure smooth WFH practices.

This past month has been challenging to say the least, the fact also remains that this had led to some of the most remarkable innovations that IT companies have designed for its clients and employees to have a seamless WFH experience.

Technology trends helping employees during COVID-19 lockdown are:-

Effective use of AI, Machine Learning to inter-link processes: Many technology companies have integrated AI, machine learning and chatbots to effectively carry out processes with less intervention from humans and more focus on productivity. For instance, an Indian tech start-up recently integrated AI to help its Marketing consulting clients with chatbots; data forms which help in completing customer reviews, grievances, feedback amongst other things. The degree of detailing is such that the software also sends emailers, messages and tweets about various customer feedback on timely basis.

Cloud computing, Centralised data is now more of a necessity than a luxury РWith limited resources in the company’s internal data hubs, one of the biggest trends that will be followed in 2020 is that every company will move to a centralised Cloud platform to efficiently back up their information data. Traditional companies which maintained internal reams of data, business ledgers and redundant softwares, will not look at the benefits of migrating to a cloud platform.

Efficient use of tools/ softwares that help in a seamless multi-language translation and speech recognition softwares – As most of the companies in India have adopted the work from home model, Multi-National Companies (MNCs) needs to seek methods and tools to connect to their satellite locations in various geographies. Be it team leaders across continents or project teams which are spread across the world, the most important aspect for them is to continuously communicate without much hindrance. Companies such as Oracle and Google have already worked on enterprise auto translation services and speech recognition softwares which has helped their clients to connect seamlessly.

One of the most important trend which I forsee is implementation of technology which is simple and replicates your office workstation experience at home- IT giants worldwide have implemented tools such as DaaS (Desktop as a Service), Virtual station INC and Web series 2.0, which replicates the exact workstation on a tablet/PC/Laptop. Services such as multi-country video conferencing, auto-data backup and restore, disaster recovery, Cloud based project sheets, VPN and security based services and company compliance related services, are now rendered through just one click. Simplicity and ease of using these softwares will only see more and more companies outsource these tools to a third part technology provider.
