Technology has affected your work life balance without you realising it, says Godrej Survey


Millennials are the most affected generation due to emergence of technology. There are vary few parts of life that are untouched by technology. From medicines to cars, our lives are greatly improved because of tech.

In workspaces, technology drives most part of communication as well as execution. A recent survey done by Godrej Interio suggests that millennials in the age group of 30-40 struggle when it comes to maintaining work life balance. The survey titled ‘Make Space for Life’ covers 1300 Indians living in top Indian cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Coimbatore, Patna, and Chennai.

Always accessible

With a wide array of communication tools available on a pocket-sized device, millennial workers are always accessible. It’s easier to get in touch with anyone these days within a matter of seconds. Employees say that their managers expect them to be reachable even outside of the office. Such easy accessibility often affects the work-life balance.

Millennials vs Generation X

Millennial generation is following drastically different life than Gen X. Earlier fulfilling family responsibilities played a major role. For Gen X workforce, energies were channeled towards finding security and stability in life before opting for materialistic desires. Millennials have been exposed to another world which has shaped their thought process.

The survey findings suggest that over 49% fo the Gen X population gives importance to work-life balance dynamics. On the other hand, only 44% of millennials are concerned about it. Millennials are dipped into work even after they leave the office and return home.

Can automation help?

Automation has resulted in higher productivity, GDP growth, and improved corporate performance. The technology has created more flexibility for employees, which can create fundamental work-life balance for employees. Since routine tasks have been automated, the workforce of the future stands a chance to maintain achieve work-life balance.
