Treyarch co-studio head and Black Ops game director Jason Blundell departs after thirteen years

While the next annual entry in the Call of Duty franchise has yet to be revealed, Treyarch Studios is sharing big news. The studio’s co-head and longtime Zombies mode director Jason Blundell is leaving. Blundell first began working on Call of Duty with Call of Duty 3 and has been with the series for thirteen years. Treyarch shared Blundell’s statement on Twitter, which you can see below.

There’s no mention of what Blundell will be up to next, so it’ll be interesting to see where he lands. Credible rumors from Kotaku state that the next Call of Duty game coming is Call of Duty: Black Ops 5, with Treyarch taking over what was originally a title led by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. If this ends up being the case, Blundell’s timing for leaving is certainly interesting.

Still, Call of Duty remains a juggernaut of a sales powerhouse, with 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from Infinity Ward ending up the best-selling game of 2019 in the U.S. The game still has significant DLC yet to be released, including an all-but-confirmed Battle Royale mode.
